Boss Burger Co. - Geelong West
Hi everyone, welcome to my first blog. My name is Matt and I'm all about the burgers that can be found in and around Melbourne, and further afield. I'm not much of a culinary expert so my reviews won't include fancy French words or insightful comments into how the beef was seared (do you even sear burgers?). My main purpose is to share my less-than-culinary view of where to find a good feed in Melbourne and what to order should you be inspired to travel down the murky, foul-smelling alleys of this great city in pursuit of the perfect burgy. Being a 22 year old uni student, I always try to sniff out the burger bar with the best value, so I'll always include pricing as well. Now that that's out of the way, let's move on to the burgers.
Despite being drenched in rain and uncomfortably cold, we decided to sit outside as soon as we arrived. Upon arrival we also agreed that Chloe would order the onion rings and I would order the fries, which is standard practice as we both love our fries and rings equally.
We both ordered The Boss, which is the first burger on the menu. Comprising of beef, lettuce, cheese, tomato, pickles, ketchup and boss sauce, it is a well-contained burger. The strengths of The Boss are in the pickles and the sauce, which give it a distinct flavour vaguely reminiscent of Hungry Jacks. There is also a homemade flavour to The Boss which makes it quite charming, filling us with a warmth on what was a wet and cold evening. In fact, we both liked it so much that we regretted not purchasing the Boss Deluxe, which comes with double everything, including bacon, but at the expense of the tomato and the pickles.
The onion rings are very good, golden brown and crispy without being burnt. They don't suffer from being waterlogged either, which is always a bonus. My only gripe is that I didn't order a large serve for myself, not that the fries were bad.
Boss Burger Co.
Boss Burger Co. is a small franchise made up of three restaurants at the moment, all in Geelong, so you'll have to make the trip down the M1 or catch the train to try what this fine establishment has to offer. Despite living in Melbourne, I happened to find myself down on the Bellarine Peninsula and as luck would have it, my girlfriend, Chloe, was aware of Boss Burger Co. by way of Instagram. Having to pass Geelong to get back to the big smoke, we decided it was only fair to treat ourselves to a good feed and see if the real thing lived up to the photos on Insta.Despite being drenched in rain and uncomfortably cold, we decided to sit outside as soon as we arrived. Pricing
The pricing is fairly reasonable, our meals coming in at $13.50 each. Had I had the stomach for a milkshake, the price would have been closer to $20.
Ambience
The restaurant itself is quite small but well-lit. It has a clean, fun, youthful vibe. The service is friendly and quick.
Dietary Requirements
There are vegetarian and vegan burgers for those of us who don't eat meat and/or animal products. I have to say, even as an omni, the vegetarian and vegan burgers looked pretty tasty and I was tempted to replace my usual beef patty with a black bean and carrot one.
Address
Boss Burger Co. 206 Pakington Street, Geelong West.
The Last Bite
This place is definitely worth a visit and could easily fit into a day trip to the Bellarine Peninsula or even the Surf Coast. If you happen to live in Geelong, well, lucky you.
