Twisted Sista - Northland, Preston
Twisted Sista is a cafe and gelateria found in three locations: Northland, Knox and Fountain Gate. It is a business that places an emphasis on presentation, making your mouth water at first sight. I can't imagine anyone setting foot inside one of these establishments and leaving without trying anything, such is the power of their displays.
Aesthetics aside, Twisted Sista also happens to have a burger on its menu called the Angus Beef Burger. It's not the most imaginative name going around, but names can be deceiving. Can this cafe burger mix it with the best from the most dedicated, well-named burgy joints in Melbourne? I certainly think so.
On a hot, sunny day befitting the upcoming summer, Chloe and I made our way to the air-conditioned comforts of Northland. Unlike last week, where we mixed a fishing trip with a burger stop, we made the burger the main mission, with a little shopping to be done either side of the main event. Furthermore, despite my slight lactose intolerance, I also ordered a milkshake to complete the experience and truly test what Twisted Sista has to offer.
The Angus Beef Burger is made up of a black Angus beef patty (obviously), caramelised onion, cheese, tomato, bacon, lettuce and herbed mayo layered between two toasted buns. The patty is thick and the buns are soft and slapped all together, this burger provides a bit of a jaw-cracking mouthful, which is just how I like it.
The caramelised onion is sweet and the cheese stands out. The patty oozes meaty juices everywhere, mixing with the herbed mayo. You won't be cringing from a dry patty here!
Eating this burger can get a little messy, which is good as this gives you something to dip your chips in, which at Twisted Sista are chunky and golden.
I drank the Cookie Monsta milkshake to wash this all down. As far as presentation is concerned, the Cookie Monsta looks outstanding. Just as outstanding is its taste. Chocolate and caramel combine here with little oreos, whipped cream and cookie crumbs to take your tastebuds on decadent trip down Sweet Tooth Lane. The addition of the Cookie Monsta made it difficult for me to finish the burger but I managed to get the job done with only a pinch of help from Chloe, who ordered a very appetising plate of fish and chips.
Pricing
The Angus Beef Burger and Cookie Monsta milkshake cost $26.90 (burgy $16.95, milkshake $9.95).
Ambience
I'd describe this place as dark, decadent and welcoming.
Dietary Requirements
There is no veggie burger on the menu, however, Twisted Sista prides itself on accommodating all sorts of dietary needs, so you might be able to have a couple of ingredients from the burger replaced if you ask nicely. Many of their shakes and beverages are dairy-free or come with dairy-free alternatives.
